Américo Lopes

Américo Lopes (born Santa Maria de Lamas, 6 March 1933), known as Américo, was a Portuguese football (soccer) goalkeeper.

He played most of his career for FC Porto, from 1958/59 to 1968/69. He won the title of National Champion still as a substitute, in 1958/59, and the Cup of Portugal, in 1967/68.

Américo was one of three Portuguese goalkeepers selected for the 1966 FIFA World Cup finals, but he was the only that never played in the competition. However he went on to play 15 times for the National Team, from the 3–2 win over Switzerland, in 29 April 1964, in a friendly match, to the 2–4 loss to Greece, in 11 December 1968, in the World Cup qualifyings.[1]
